Autism Awareness programmes
Autism Awareness programmes for autistic children and accompanying parents and public were organised at Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai on 4.3.2018 and 11.3.2018 in collaboration with Santosh Institute for Mentally Challenged Children, Mumbai. Cultural events, plays and film shows were organised to showcase the talents of children suffering from autism. Also an exhibition of articles made by these children was on display. About 600 children, parents, teachers and public participated and attended the programmes.
International Women’s Day Celebration
International Women’s Day was celebrated at the Centre on 8.3.2018. Throughout the day Film on Women in Science was screened in the reception area for the visitors. Special science shows and Science on a Sphere shows were also organised. About 225 women participated in the programme.
2 sessions of Innovation Hub one on Science without props and on Tod-Fod-Jod were organised at the Centre for the Innovation Hub students on 17.3.2018 and 24.3.2018. 31 students in each session participated in the programme.
Film Preservation workshop Photo Album
Film Heritage Foundation, Mumbai in association with International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF) and Nehru Science Centre organized a workshop titled “Film Preservation in Practice” during March 9-10, 2018 at the Centre. This workshop was conducted by the two international experts Mr. David Walsh and Mr. Mick Newnham and was attended by 10 registered participants from the field. The workshop was focused on practical hands-on training in film handling, repair and conservation treatments.
Inauguration of Heritage on Wheels Vintage Car Exhibition
Vintage Car Exhibition was organised at the Centre in collaboration with Vintage & Classic Car Club of India. The exhibition was formally inaugurated by Shri Satish Sahaney, Chief Executive, Nehru Centre, Mumbai on 15.3.2018. 25 Vintage Cars and 12 Vintage Bikes are on display in the exhibition. The exhibition high-lights the older versions of the cars and the Bikes with the change in technology over the period of time. The exhibition will be on display till 8.4.2018. Over 25000 visitors including students, teachers and general public visited the exhibition.
Science Odyssey Film Survey
MacGillivray Freeman Films, USA in collaboration with Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai conducted the survey for National Parks Adventure, large format film which is being shown in the Science Odyssey theatre of the centre, at the Science Odyssey facility during March 17-18, 2018. In this survey around 450 plus visitors participated.
World Water Day Celebration
World Water Day was celebrated at the Centre in association with Rotary District 3141 during 21st and 22nd March, 2018 by organising a Drawing Competition and Seminar for the students, teachers and general public. On 21st March Drawing Competition was organised for the students of std. 8th and above on the topic “Nature for Water”. 112 students participated in the competition. On 22.3.2018 a Seminar on the theme Nature for Water was also organized in which 4 speakers presented their ideas and discussed the problems of potable water and other water related crisis and how nature can provide solutions to such problems. Such solutions are sustainable in nature. This was followed by presentations from Jal Rakshak from 11 rotary clubs. Prizes were also distributed to the winners of drawing competitions and best Jal rakshaks. In all 200 visitors including students, teachers and public attended the programmes.
