Vigyan Sammellan – Dombivali 2019:

Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai actively participated in an outreach programme  Vigyan Sammellan – Dombivali 2019 (Science Conference) organised by General Education Institute, Dadar, Marathi Vigyan Parishad, Thane and Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation on 5th and 6th  January, 2019. The Vigyan Sammemman was organised at S. V. Joshi Vidya Sankul, Dombivali (East). During the period, 5 sessions each of 2 hours duration were organised. 15 Science Shows on the topics How matter behaves at a very low temperature?, Fun with Chemistry and Science is Fun were organised. Live demonstrations of the LN2 experiments such as expansion and contraction properties of the matter, Cloud formation,  Superconductivity, chemistry experiments like welcome experiment, freezing water without refrigerator, chemical volcano, traffic light reaction and the Fun Science experiments such as demonstration of centrifugal force,  Hot water fountain, Balancing nails, transfer of momentum, Which candle goes off first?, etc. were shown to more than 1100 students and teachers from 20 schools of Kalyan & Dombivali region.


Science Festival at Vashi:

The Centre actively participated in the Science Festival organised by Navi Mumbai Science Foundation at Gujarat Bhavan, Vashi on 13th January 2019. 6 Science shows on the topic Fun Science were organised for 600 visitors including students teachers and the general public.


NSCM’s participation in 8th NES International SCIENCE & Technology Festival – 2019:

The Centre was invited to participate in the 8th NES International SCIENCE & Technology Festival – 2019 (Exhibition of Working Models) organised at NES International School, Swapa Nagari, Mulund((W), Mumbai - 400082 during 12-15 January 2019.


The festival was basically a culmination of 3 events together namely,

1.    8th NES International Science Project Festival for IB Schools across South Asia.

2.    NES-SVB Science & Technology Festival for Jr. & Sr. Students from NES-SVB group of 65 Institutions for degree and professional college students.

3.    NES International School Mumbai-IB World School Science and Technology Festival exclusively for 800 Junior & Senior students of 2 IB Schools managed by NES-SVB Group of Institution in Mumbai.


The Centre showcased many hands-on experiments & demonstrations supporting the school science syllabi by setting up a separate Pavilion with our low cost, easy to do & operate Science Educational kits and exhibits on various themes to which there was an overwhelming response by the students, teachers & parents.


Science Demonstration Lecture on ‘Fun With Science’ was conducted in which over 250 students, teachers & parents participated.


The Centre had also set up a panel exhibition at the festival venue on the Nobel Awards-2018.


Marathi – Malayali  Ethnic Fest 2019         

The Centre organized Marathi - Malayali Ethnic Fest 2019 from 25th to 27th January 2019 in collaboration with All Mumbai Malayali Association (AMMA). During the event following competitions were organized for the students, teachers & the general public.


a) Painting Competition for Jr. group (upto 4th Std.) & Sr. group(Std.6th to 10th ) was organized separately at this centre on 25.01.2019. “City on Moon” and “Visit to a Historical Place”  were the topics for the Jr. and the Sr. groups respectively.

In all 130 students participated in the contest.


b) Rangoli competition was organised in the afternoon session for the students up to 10th Std in the Science for Children gallery of the Centre on 25.01.2019. 8 students took part and  drew the colourful rangolis by using rangoli powder and flowers on the topic ‘I love my India”


c) Elocution contest was conducted on 26thJanuary, 2019 for school students from Std. 6th to 10th.  8 students participated in the contest and expressed their thoughts on the topic “India 2030”.


d) As part of Ethnic festival, the performance of traditional art forms of Kerala & Maharashtra like Bharatanatyam, Mohiniattam(solo), Ottanthullal, Thiruvathirakali, Lavni, Koli dance, singing competition(solo) etc.  were organised on 26th & 27thJanuary, 2019. In all 77 participants from various schools and social groups presented various dances and songs. The cultural programmes were organised on 26th & 27thJanuary, 2019. in the evening which about 430 visitors including students, teachers and the general public attended the programme and enjoyed the fusion of Marathi Malayali culture.


Mobile Science Exhibition in Kolhapur District

During the month, Mobile Science Exhibition(MSE) on curriculum-based was organized in 17 different schools of Kolhapur district. In addition to the exhibition, science shows and science film shows were also organized for the students and teachers.


Visits of Underprivileged Children

During the month, visits of 6499 underprivileged students and teachers from 20 institutes / NGOs were organized. They were given exposure to the various facilities at the centre under this scheme. Guided tour to the galleries, Science Odyssey show, 3D science show, Science on a Sphere show and Science Shows were organised for these children. They were also provided refreshments.


Package Tour

During the month, the Centre has extended the facility of package tour on advance booking for 12497 students and teachers of 55 schools. Apart from Science Odyssey, Science on a Sphere and 3D shows, they were given a guided tour of the galleries, science shows, visits to innovation hub and spark theatre shows were also organized.
