National Science Drama Festival (Zonal Level)
Nehru Science Centre Mumbai in collaboration with State Council of Educational Research & Training, Chattisgarh, State Council of Educational Research & Training, Goa, Gujarat Council on Science and Technology (GUJCOST), Gujarat, State Institute of Science Education and CTE, Madhya Pradesh, Regional Education Academy, State Institute of Science Education, Maharashtra, Department of Science and Technology, Rajasthan organised Western India Science Drama Festival. Ms Raell Padamsee, CEO & Managing Director, Ace Productions inaugurated the Western Science Drama Festival on 3rd December 2019. In all 12 teams from 6 different States staged their Science Dramas.
First prize of the drama festival was awarded to Childrens Academy, Malad, Mumbai play titled ‘Mere Desh Ka Hero – Gandhiman’ whereas the second prize was secured by Samartha High School, Amaravati, Maharashtra titled ‘Sarniche Awartan’, third prize was given to the play titled ‘Gandhi Evam Vidnyan’ staged by Sir Padampat Singhania, Kota, Rajasthan. The programme was attended by around 300 students.

International Year of Periodic Table of Chemical Elements (IYPT2019)
The Centre in collaboration with Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) organised 'Fascinating Chemistry' workshop on 5th December 2019 to commemorate 'International Year of Periodic Table of Chemical Elements (IYPT2019)' with a aim to provide an opportunity for the students to know many aspects of Chemistry including viz: its importance in everyday life, career options in chemistry, its social and economic impacts etc.  The programme started with a popular talk on ‘Day to Day Chemistry’ & ‘Career options in Chemistry’ delivered by Prof. B. M. Bhanage, Dean, Infrastructure and Campus Development, Professor of Industrial & Engineering Chemistry, ICT. The lecture was followed by Live Demonstrations on theme ‘Fascinating Chemistry’ by the students of ICT. Prof Aniruddha Pandit, J C Bose National Fellow, Vice Chancellor, ICT also shared his views with the audience on theme 'Popularising Chemistry'. 278 students from 27 Schools participated in the programme.

STEM learning workshop for girls
A weeklong programme for science discovery to explore the linkage of everything around us in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics was organized at the Centre during 9th – 14th December, 2019 in collaboration with Covestro, Greenlight4 girls and Chandramohan Foundation.  The program aims to encourage girls to take up career in STEM fields by giving them exposure to these fields. 6 STEM workshops per day, each of 45 minutes duration were organised with interactive hands-on, unbelievably fun learning led by experts from India and overseas.  During the workshop, hands-on activities of Polymer Putty, DNA extraction and Make it glow projects were undertaken by the participants. The workshops were supplemented by Meet the Women Scientist programmes. Every day the girl participants got the opportunity to interact with the leading women scientists. Science on a Sphere shows were also organised for the participants as a part of the STEM workshops. Around 1700 girl students, their teachers and volunteers participated in this week long program.

Semi-final rounds of Marathi medium schools
2 Semi-final rounds of Marathi medium interschool science quiz were conducted on 10th and 12th December, 2019. 32 students from 8 schools contested for qualifying for the Final round. 15 parents and teachers witnessed the quiz rounds. The semi-final rounds were organised in collaboration with Rotary Club of Bombay Pier and Rotary Club of Queen City.

Inauguration of travelling exhibition “Superbugs: The End of Antibiotics?”
A travelling exhibition “Superbugs: The End of Antibiotics?” was inaugurated at the Centre on 18th December, 2019. The exhibition has been developed and organised  by National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India, a parent body of Nehru Science Centre in association with Science Museum Group, London, the Wellcome Trust, UK and Indian Council of Medical Research. The exhibition was inaugurated by  Padma Vibhushan Prof. Man Mohan Sharma, Emeritus Professor of Eminence, Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai in the august presence of Ms. Helen Jones, Director, Global Engagement & Strategy Science Museum Group and distinguished guests and dignitaries from Science Museum Group, UK and the Wellcome Trust(UK) including Deputy High Commissioner, UK high commission . The exhibition will be on display till 16th February, 2020. The exhibition talk about various issues of Superbugs and Antimicrobial Resistance(AMR). 320 visitors including students, teachers and general public attended the programme. 

Popular Science Lecture
As a part of public awareness campaigns on Superbugs, NSCM organised a public lecture on the important issue of Antibiotics and India at the centre on 19th December, 2019. Mr Sheldon Paquin, Curator, Science Museum, London delivered lecture. In his lecture he talked about a complex relationship of human and bacteria. Humans have been misusing the antibiotics, complicating our relationship with bacteria. 339 visitors including students teachers and public attended the lecture.

National Mathematics Day 2019 celebration
National Mathematics Day was organised at the Centre from 20th to 22nd December 2019 to commemorate the 132nd Birth Anniversary of renowned Indian Mathematician Srinivas Ramanujan.  As a part of this commemoration, during 20th - 22nd December, workshop cum Exhibition of Mathematics Teaching Aids, Toys and puzzle solving contests kits were on display at the Centre. Hands-on activities like Mobius band, power of collaboration, Soma cube puzzle, Fun with mathematics (snake & ladder game) were undertaken by the visitors. 2341 visitors including students, underprivileged children and general public visited the exhibition by actively participating in the construction of various puzzles and won the prizes.
During the period of commemoration, 4 film shows titled “The Genius of Srinivas Ramanujan” were organised in the auditorium of the Centre. About 965 students have seen the film shows.
On 20th December 2019, Mathematics Puzzle Solving Contest was organised for school students of std. 7th to 9th in which 40 students took part. Also a one day workshop on fabrication of Teaching Aids was organised for B.Ed. / D.Ed. College students. 82 trainee teachers from 4 B.Ed. / D. Ed. Colleges participated in the workshop and fabricated 2 kits of Pythagoras theorem and Square puzzle kits.
On 21st December 2019, two workshops on Origami, one for regular school students of std. 7th to 9th and one for underprivileged children were organised. Mrs. Gargi Lagu, from Origami Mitra group, Mumbai was the resource person. She along with her team members taught and guided the students about the paper folding art and made different paper models.
One day workshop on Mathematical Magic was also organised on 21st December, 2019 for the school students of std. 7th to 10th. The workshop was conducted by Shri Pradhan Suresh Kulkarni, Thakur Vidyamandir, Thane.During the workshop, the students were exposed to  various mathematical tricks finding out numbers in one’s mind, magic of a square, superfast addition (sum of any 10 numbers in sequence) etc. 215 students and teachers enjoyed the Magics of Mathematics.
On 22nd December 2019, two open house quizzes on Mathematics were organised for students and general public. Around 90 people attended the programme and won around 30 prizes
The programme was catalysed and supported by National Council of Science & Technology Communication, DST, Govt. of India & Rajiv Gandhi Science & technology Commission, Govt. of Maharashtra.

Popular Science Lecture on Eclipses and their importance
As a curtain raiser of the Solar Eclipse viewing programme on 26th December, 2019, a popular science lecture was organised at the Centre on 24th December, 2019. The lecture was delivered by Prof.  Mayank Vahia, Former Scientist, TIFR, Mumbai and Now Dean, School of Mathematical Sciences, NMIMS, Mumbai on the topic ”Eclipses and their Importance”. The lecture was followed by the question answer session. About 245 visitors attended the lecture programme.

Solar Eclipse viewing programme
Partial Solar Eclipse viewing programme was organised at the Centre on 26th December, 2019 from 8.00 am to 11.00 am to witness the last solar eclipse of the year 2019. The Centre had setup 2 telescopes with one having a projection arrangement for the visitors. Solar eclipse viewing goggles and appropriate welding glasses were arranged for the visitors. 635 visitors enjoyed the solar eclipse viewing by using projection arrangements, solar filters and solar goggles. Apart from this, some table top demonstrations about the occurrences of the eclipses were also shown to the visitors.

The Centre has organise a SCI-Birthday programme on 15th December, 2019.  25 kids, parents along with their host participated in the programme. The participants were taken to various facilities of the centre and given special shows.

Package Tour
During the month, 29 package tours were organized for about 3508 students and teachers. They were given the guided tour of the galleries, Science Show and Science On a Sphere show.
